What happened
- Per Euronews and Clubic, the electronic voting platform (named E-Votez by Clubic) was hit from opening at 8:00 on 9 Oct by “a massive, fake flood of connections” generated by bots; by 19:00 only 20,000 of 140,000 registered voters had voted.
- Root cause: per the organizing commission, the attack aimed to maximise simultaneous connections through bots (a denial-of-service style attack).
- No attacker named.
- Voting was extended to Sunday 18:00; the commission said the integrity of recorded votes was not compromised and the platform was never interrupted. Per Euronews the participating parties went to court; per Clubic the Prime Minister asked ANSSI to investigate.
